Service and dedication have defined Bob Smith's career for
over 35 years. His record of service includes 28 years as a
firefighter/law enforcement veteran, filling roles as a
firefighter, deputy sheriff, sheriff’s detective, criminal investigator,
and SWAT team member.
Bob has also been deeply involved in various law enforcement charities and organizations, including service as a San Bernardino County Disaster Preparedness Officer, a Board Member of the Police Activities League, President of the Air Smuggling Investigators Association, President of the National Police Rodeo Association, and member of the Barstow Police Chief’s Advisory Council. That's just one of the many reasons why he was named the Optimist International Police Officer of the Year in 1978. In 2000, Bob retired from the San Bernardino County Special Investigation Unit.
Since retiring from law enforcement, Bob Smith has worked as a Field Representative, Senior Field Representative and District Director to the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors. Since his retirement, he has returned to public service twice: first as a Senior Field Representative for the 34th Assembly District, and second, to work with San Bernardino County Assessor Bill Postmus.
Bob is also a current member of the Republican Central Committee of San Bernardino County, where he has been instrumental in helping to get local Republicans elected to City Councils, Judgeships, Water Boards and other municipalities. Bob Smith also started the Barstow Area Republican Caucus (BARC), where he served as President and worked on increasing Republican registration in Barstow and the surrounding communities.
This is not Bob Smith's first foray into elective politics. In 1999, he was elected to serve on the Silver Valley School District's Board of Trustees, where he was able to focus on higher education standards and levels throughout the region. Currently Bob serves as a School Board Trustee with the Summit Leadership Academy.
Bob is also a Board Member for the Boys and Girls Club, and a past Board Member for One to One Mentors. Additionally, he has served as a Vice President of the Baker Chamber of Commerce and an Alternate Board Member of the Victor Valley Economic Development, where he promoted fiscal accountability and conservatism.
